The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will host two games this week. They welcome the Boise State Broncos on Thursday night, Dec. 8, beginning at 7:00 p.m. and the Northern Colorado Bears, on Saturday, Dec. 10, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
The Cowgirls are 4-1 in the early season after victories over Montana, 50-45, and Denver, 62-47, last weekend. Wyoming is led in scoring by sophomore Hanna Zavecz who is averaging 11.8 points along with four assists and 3.2 steals per game. Erin Hicks is the leading rebounder with 6.4 per contest while chipping in eight points per game. Wyoming is 99-264 (.375) from the field and averaging 56.0 points and 33.2 rebounds per game.
The Broncos are currently 5-1 overall. They are led by Jackie Lee who is averaging 15 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. They come in to this season with two returning starters and seven letterwinners from a team that went 10-19 overall and 4-14 in the Western Athletic Conference a year ago.
This will be the fifth meeting between the two schools. Boise State leads the series 3-1. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 28, 2004 in Boise as the Broncos defeated the Cowgirls 55-44. Boise State is coached by Gordy Presnell who is in his first year with the program and his 19th as a head coach.
The Bears are currently 4-3 overall. They are led by Jena Fosdick who is averaging 11.6 points and 3.9 rebounds. They come in to this season with three returning starters and 13 letterwinners from a team that went 12-16 overall a year ago.
This will be the 23rd meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 15-8. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 20, 2004 in Greeley as the Cowgirls defeated the Bears 64-39. Northern Colorado is coached by Ron Vlasin, who is in his fifth year with the program.
