The Wyoming women’s basketball team will close out a three-game road swing on Wednesday against the Denver Pioneers. The game is set for 12 p.m. MT in Denver at Magness Arena. Wyoming is currently 3-3 after two tough losses last week against Gonzaga and Idaho on the road. The Cowgirls opened up the week with a 61-57 loss against Gonzaga followed by a four-point loss, 61-57, against Idaho on Saturday. UW was led by Marquelle Dent and Jordan Kelley on the week. Dent averaged 22.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists over the two game stretch while Kelley finished with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
With 996 career points, Dent is also seeking to become the 23rd player in school history to reach 1,000 points for her career. The senior from Denver, Colo. currently leads the team in scoring, assists and steals. She ranks second in scoring, assists in minutes played plus seventh in assist/turnover ratio in the MW. Kelley is averaging 11 points and 10.3 rebounds which is second in the league.
UW is shooting 135-of-350 (.386) from the field and 39-of-123 (.317) from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 66.0-61.3 and out rebounding teams 37.0-34.8.
The Pioneers are currently 1-6 overall. Two players are averaging in double-figures led by Samantha Romanowski with 13.1 points followed by Paige Bradley with 10.7 points. Jordan Alt leads the way with 6.9 rebounds off the bench. As a team, Denver is averaging 53.3 points per contest and 30.7 rebounds. The Pioneers return three starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 8-23 overall and 5-11 in the Summit League a season ago.
