In their only game of the week, the Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will play their final home game before the Christmas break as they host the Weber State Wildcats, on Friday night, at 7:00 p.m.
The Cowgirls enter this week's competition with an overall record of 6-1 after an 89-43 victory over Ohio University on Saturday night. Wyoming is currently led by senior Ashley Elliott, who is averaging 15.9 points and 4.9 assists per game. She is followed closely by Erin Hicks with 14 points and a team leading 8.9 rebounds and forward Hanna Zavecz with 13.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. As a team, they are shooting 148-376 (.394) from the field and 110-154 (.714) from the charity stripe, while averaging 65.7 points per game.
Weber State comes in to the game with an overall record of 4-3 with their most recent loss coming against Mountain West Conference opponent Utah, 66-59, in Ogden. They are led by senior Julie Gjertsen who is averaging 19.3 points and nine rebounds. The Wildcats return three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 17-11 overall and 11-3 in the Big Sky Conference a year ago. Weber State is coached by Carla Taylor, who is in her 17th season with the program.
This will be the 25th meeting between the two schools. Weber State leads the series 13-11 and has won the last two games. The last time the two teams met was Jan. 7, 2004 in Ogden when the Wildcats defeated the Cowgirls, 61-49.
