Cowgirl Basketball Returns Home for Two Games

    The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team will return home for their final two games before the Christmas break this week. They will host the Weber State Wildcats, on Friday, Dec. 18, and the Oregon Ducks, on Sunday, Dec. 20. The Weber State game is set to tip at 7 p.m. while the Oregon game is slated for 2 p.m.

    The Cowgirls will enter Friday's game with an 8-1 overall record after a 102-54 victory over Dakota State on Saturday in Casper. Four Cowgirls are scoring in double-figures so far led by junior Hillary Carlson with 13.9 points and 1.9 blocks per game. She is followed by junior Aubrey Vandiver with 12.7 points and a team leading 8.4 rebounds, while Emma Langford is adding 11.4 points and Kristen Scheffler with 10.4 points per game.

    Carlson ranks first in blocks and ninth in scoring, while being ranked second in free throw percentage and seventh in field goal percentage in the Mountain West Conference. Vandiver ranks among the Top 15 in points, rebounds and steals, while Langford is 11th in assists and 15th in scoring.

    The Wildcats are currently 6-5 overall and are led by Caitlin Anderson who is averaging 11.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. They welcome back all five starters and 11 letterwinners to a team that went 10-19 overall and 5-11 in the Big Sky Conference last year. This is the 28th meeting between the two teams. WSU leads the series 14-13. The last time the two teams met was Dec. 4, 2008 as the Cowgirls pulled out a 78-75 victory in Ogden. The Wildcats are coached by Carla Taylor who is in her 22nd season with the program.

    Oregon is 8-1 overall and will play Georgia Tech on Wednesday before taking on the Cowgirls. The Ducks are led by Amanda Johnson who is averaging 16.6 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. They return four starters and nine letterwinners to a team that went 9-21 overall and 5-13 in the Pac 10 a year ago. This is the fourth meeting between the two schools. Oregon leads the series 2-1. The last time the two teams met was Nov. 29, 2008 as the Ducks defeated the Cowgirls 51-45 in Eugene. Oregon is coached by Paul Westhead who is in his first season with the program.
