For the second week in a row, a Wyoming Cowgirl basketball player has earned MWC Player of the Week honors. Senior forward Hillary Carlson was named Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Dec. 20-26. It is the first league weekly honor for Carlson this season and the second of her career.
Carlson, a 6-3 senior from Cheyenne, Wyo., led the Cowgirls to two road wins last week as Wyoming improved to 9-3 on the season. Against Montana on Tuesday, Carlson finished with a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds, while shooting .600 (9-15) from the field and a perfect 1.000 (4-4) from the free throw line. It was the first time the Cowgirls had beaten Montana in Missoula. In Wyoming's 80-50 win at Utah State, Carlson scored 24 points, grabbed four rebounds and blocked four shots, shooting .571 (12-21) from the field.
For the week, Carlson averaged 23.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocks per game, while shooting .583 (21-36) from the field. She shot .500 (1-2) from three-point range and 1.000 (4-4) from the free throw line while averaging 30.0 minutes per game.
