The Wyoming women's basketball team looks to get back on the winning track as it opens up the 2015 Mountain West season on Wednesday against the UNLV Lady Rebels. The Cowgirls enter Wednesday's match-up with a 5-5 mark after suffering a disappointing 76-71 loss last time out against Colorado. Junior Marquelle Dent led all scorers with a game-high 24 points and seven assists. She was 7-of-17 from the field and 10-of-13 from the charity stripe. Senior Kayla Woodward followed with a season-high 22 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Senior Jordan Sibrel also added eight rebounds. The Cowgirls shot 25-of-69 (.362) from the field and just 15-of-23 (.652) from the free throw line.
Dent leads the way averaging 18.3 points, 5.8 assists and 1.9 steals. Woodward follows with a team-high 7.7 rebounds plus 15.0 points, while Kaitlyn Mileto is adding 10.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. As a team, the Cowgirls are shooting 245-of-624 (.393) from the field and 77-of-201 (.348) from the beyond the arc.
UNLV enters league play with a 3-8 overall record. Senior guard Danielle Miller leads the team in scoring with 17.9 points plus 2.9 rebounds. Senior forward Alana Cesarz follows with 17.8 points and a team leading 7.9 rebounds. The Lady Rebels average 72.5 points compared to 75.9 points for their opponents while outrebounding the opposition 42.9-38.8. This will be the 40th meeting between the two schools. UNLV leads the series 20-19, but the Cowgirls have won the last four straight. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 8, 2014 with Wyoming earning an 82-56 win in Laramie. The Lady Rebels are coached by Kathy Olivier who is in her seventh season with the program.
