The Wyoming women’s basketball team will close out its two-game homestand on Saturday against the Nevada Wolf Pack. The game is set to tip-off at 2 p.m. MT in the Arena-Auditorium. The Cowgirls opened up league play with a tough 84-77 loss against the San Diego State Aztecs. Marta Gomez led all scorers with 27 points plus four rebounds in 36 minutes of action. Natalie Baker recorded a double-double with a career-high 19 points and ten rebounds. Liv Roberts recorded 13 points followed by Marquelle Dent with ten points and 11 assists. Jordan Kelley also brought down ten boards. The Cowgirls shot 30-of-64 (.469) from the field and 10-of-26 (.385) from three.
Dent currently leads the team in scoring, assists and steals. She ranks first in assists, minutes played, second in assist/turnover ratio and third in scoring in the MW.
UW is shooting 255-of-637 (.400) from the field and 71-of-215 (.330) from beyond the arc this season. The Cowgirls are also outscoring opponents 69.8-64.9 and out rebounding teams 38.0-36.0.
Nevada is 1-11 overall and 0-1 in MW play. The Wolf Pack are led by Nyasha Lesure who is averaging a team-high 12.8 points and 5.9 rebounds. Stephanie Schmid follows with 9.8 points and 2.6 boards. As a team, Nevada is averaging 56.0 points and 35.3 rebounds per contest. The Wolf Pack return one starter and five letterwinners to a team that went 9-21 overall and 5-13 in the MW a year ago.
This is the 19th meeting between the two schools. UW holds a 13-5 advantage in the series. The last time the two teams met was Feb 18, 2015 with the Cowgirls coming away with a 77-54 victory. Nevada is coached by Jane Albright who is in her eighth season with the program.
