San Diego, Calif. - The University of Wyoming women'sgolf team opened its 2003 spring season at the Lady Aztec InvitationalMonday in San Diego, Calif. The Cowgirls shot a first round 333 to finishthe day in a three way tie for tenth place with Southwest Missouri State andWeber State. Kansas shot a first round 304 to take the top spot in the 15team tournament.
Wyoming's top individual finisher in the first round was senior AlisonBehind McGuirewas sophomore Sahla Hanson with a 10-over par 83, which placed her in a tiefor 40th.
The low round on the first day of the tournament was shot by JenniferBawanan of Kansas with a one-under par performance of 71. Bawanan has a onestroke lead going into the final round of play over Shayna Miyajima of SanDiego State.
The 2003 Lady Aztec Invitational is a two day, 36-hole tournament held atLake San Marcos Country Club in Lake Marcos, Calif. The course measures at5,905 yards and is a played to a par 72.
The Cowgirls will look to improve on their scores when the tournamentresumes on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
