Wyoming Cowgirl Golf Team Places 11th at the Lady Aztec Invitational

The University of Wyoming women's golf team concluded its first tournament of the 2003 spring season on Tuesday, placing 11th out of 15 teams at the San Diego State Lady Aztec Invitational. Wyoming fired its second consecutive round of 333 to end the tournament with a 666 total for the 36-hole event. Texas Tech won the team title with a two-round score of 609.

Individually, UW senior Alison McGuire tied for 39th out of 78 golfers for Wyoming's highest placer. McGuire shot rounds of 81 on Monday and 83 Tuesday for a 20-over par total of 164. McGuire was followed closely by teammates Shala Hanson and Bailey Adcock, who posted scores of 165 and 166, respectively, to finish tied for 45th and 48th places.

Jennifer Bawanan of Kansas captured the individual title by one stroke over Shayna Miyajima of San Diego State and Courtney Cotter of Sacramento State. Bawanan fired a four-over par total of 148. Miyajima and Cotter shot five-over par totals of 149.

The 2003 Lady Aztec Invitational was a two-day, 36-hole tournament held at Lake San Marcos Country Club in Lake San Marcos, Calif. The course measured 5,885 yards and played to a par of 72.

The Cowgirls' next tournament of the spring will be the Montana State Lady Bobcat Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz., on March 3-4, 2003.
