Jessi Santesson, a senior fromWorland, Wyo., fired a final round 73 on Sunday at the Mountain ViewCollegiate golf tournament in Tucson, Ariz., and vaulted from 33rd place toa tie for 20th. Santesson's one-over par round 73 was the second lowestround of the day in the field of 59 women's golfers.
Wyoming finished 10th in the 10-team field with a 36-hole total of 647.
The University of Colorado, which was the host school for thetournament, tied International Pacific College for the team title with atwo-round total of 603. Elise Carpenter of Kansas State won the individualcompetition with a one-over par total of 145.
"It was great to see Jessi (Santesson) shoot a great round of golf,"said Wyoming women's golf coach Jill Johnson. "She suffered through thefall season with a bad back. I hope this will get her back on track for agreat senior season.
"The rest of the team couldn't really get anything going today, butwe saw some good competition, and I think all the girls learned a lot fromthis tournament. We have a couple of weeks before our next tournament, andhopefully we can get outside and get some good practice rounds in prior tothat tournament.
Wyoming's next competition will be March 4-6 in Greenville, N.C., atthe Ironwood Spring Invitational.
The Mountain View Collegiate, hosted by the University of Colorado,was played on the Mountain View Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz. The coursemeasured 5,921 yards and played to a par of 72.
