The Cowgirl golf team wrapped up the second round of the Kiawah Island Classic on Monday afternoon on the Oak Point course at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. UW turned in a team score of 327 (+39) to move to 639 (+63) on the two rounds, as Wyoming sits in 22nd place in the 36-team field.
“It was a mixed bag of what hurt us individually today, one thing is adjusting to the different style of greens here,” UW head coach Josey Stender said. “We just need to polish some things up and we can make some more progress tomorrow.”
Senior Stacey Blunt led the Cowgirl charge for the second consecutive day turning in a score card of 76 (+4). On the tournament she stands at 153 (+9), as she is tied for 38th place. Freshman Taylor Dorans finished the day at 83 (+11) sitting tied for 108th place after the first two rounds of play at 161 (+17).
“Stacey had great course management today and I’m very pleased with her play,” Stender stated.
Senior Emily Wood and junior Samantha Stancato ended the second round at 84 (+12). Wood is tied for 110th with a two-round tally of 162 (+18). Stancato is tied for 114th place at 163 (+19). Sophomore Kathleen Kershisnik turned in a 85 (+13) on Monday for a two-round total of 169 (+25).
No. 37 Kent State is in the lead after the first two rounds at 594 (+18). High Point follows in second at 599 (+23). Jacksonville State is third with a tally of 601 (+25). North Carolina-Greenboro’s Sammie Buchanan is the individual leader with a two-round score of 142 (-2).
The Cowgirls tee off tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. MT. UW will play on the Oak Point course at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort for the second straight day.
