Cowgirl Golfers Capture Second Place at Campbell University Classic

March 2, 1999

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirls posted their best tournament finish of the 1998-99 season on Tuesday, placing second at the Campbell University Fighting Camel Classic. UW's Jordan Lintz also notched her second tournament title this season, winning by one stroke over Laura Torrisi of Campbell University.

The Cowgirls shot a two-round total of 673 to finish second behind host Campbell, which shot a 617. Lintz shot rounds of 73 and 77 for a 36-hole total of 150 to win by one stroke. Lintz had to birdie the final two holes of Tuesday's closing round to secure the victory.

"This is the kind of tournament we needed," said UW women's golf coach Jill Johnson. "Hopefully, this tournament will give our team some confidence the remainder of the spring season. Jordan played an excellent tournament. She played with great focus and determination all week, and to birdie the final two holes for a one-stroke win was just a great performance on her part.

"Jessi (Santesson) really did some nice things this week, and played very consistently. Katherine (Crowley) also had a nice tournament for us. She had a great final round, shooting an 83."

This is only the second tournament of the spring season for the Cowgirls. In the fall season, UW's highest finish was third in the Cowgirl Challenge in Sheridan, Wyo. Lintz's other individual title of the 1998-99 season was at the Cowgirl Challenge in the fall.

The Campbell University Classic was played at the Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, N.C., which is also the location of Campbell University. The course measured 5949 yards and played to a par of 72.
