BOULDER CITY, Nev. -
In the first tournament of the spring season, the University of Wyoming women's golf team sits in 17th place after the first day of the three-day UNLV Spring Invitational.
The Cowgirls trail the leading UNLV Lady Rebels with their team total of 281 (-7) while the Cowgirls have a first day total of 310 (+22).
They are led by junior Molly Black and sophomore Juanita Rico who ended their first rounds with a total of 74 (+2) strokes, which has them tied for 29th place. Black ended the day with two birdies while Rico added just one.
"It was a good start for the girls to get the first round out of the way," said UW Director of Golf Joe Jensen. "Unfortunately yesterday in our practice round we got rained out and were unable to play the last few holes and it showed today. We had a tough time closing out the first round and we need to improve on that if we want to compete against this very tough field."
The second round of the UNLV Spring Invite will begin at 7:30 a.m. with live stats available at www.golfstat.com.
