The University of Wyoming Cowgirl golf team is in seventh place following the first two rounds of play at the BYU Entrada Classic in St. George, Utah. The Cowgirls shot a first round score of 311 (+23) before a 312 (+24) in the second to give them 623 (+47) with one round remaining.
"This is a tough golf course," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "It demands tremendous course management and mental toughness over a very long day."
Coming off her best-career finish at the Grand Canyon Invite, sophomore Gabrielle Gibson shot a 78 (+6) in both rounds on Monday. Her first-day total of 156 (+12) has her tied for 24th to lead UW. Megan Knadler started the spring season with a top-10 finish at the GCU Invite and currently is tied 33rd for Wyoming. She fired a 157 (+13) on Monday with rounds of 79 (+7) in the first before following with a 78 (+6).
Senior Emily Woodard led all Cowgirls during the opening round of competition. The Cheyenne native recorded a season-best score of 76 (+4) in the first round and then an 83 (+11) to cap off day one. She sits tied 40th with the final round remaining. Freshman Kaylee Knadler, who also is coming off her best-career finish at the GCU Invite, is tied 40th after Monday’s two rounds of play. She shot an 86 (+14) in round one and then Wyoming’s best round of 73 (+1) in the second for the Cowgirls.
Senior Kathleen Kershisnik shot a 78 (+6) in the tournament’s first round and a 91 (+19) in the second. Kershisnik is in 69th place with the final round remaining.
"We have preparded ourselves very well," Stender added. "I thought we really hung in there through some inconsisent conditions and gave ourselves a chance for a good finish tomorrow."
Host BYU is leading the 14-team field with a first-day total of 588 (+12), while Lea Garner has the individual lead with a 142 (-2).
