The University of Wyoming women's golf team battled a stacked field of opponents and extremely windy conditions on Monday to sit in 14th place after 36 holes at the University of Hawai'i's Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course. The Cowgirls posted rounds of 317 and 316 for a total of 633 (+57) to trail leader No. 9 Arizona State at +10 (586), as the tournament concludes with 18 holes tomorrow.

"For the most part I was pleased with our performance, considering the difficulty of the course and the conditions," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "This was our first tournament with 36 holes in one day, so the mental grind kind of affected us. We were a little more confident in our decision making, but this course has really small greens and then the wind makes it even more difficult."

Senior Molly Black is the top Cowgirl through two rounds with a +12 after shooting 76 (+4) and 80 (+8). She finished the day tied for 47th and currently leads No. 90 Lauren Stratton of Vanderbilt by one stroke. Junior Juanita Rico is tied for 61st at +15 with a 76 and 83, while sophomore Dana Zamprelli was one of two UW golfers to improve their score in the second round. She opened with an 84, but came back with a 76 to sit tied for 66th at +16. Freshman Stacey Blunt opened with an 85, but cut her second round score to 79 for a +20 to stand tied for 78th. Redshirt junior Jenna Zamprelli shot 81 for both rounds and is 73rd.

"This morning Molly and Juanita managed to make some good scrambles and put together a solid round," Stender said. "Dana and Stacey really improved their play in the second round. It was about minimalizing mental mistakes for the two of them."

The Cowgirls have a chance tomorrow to move up in the team standings, as UW sits 17 strokes behind host Hawai'i for seventh place.

"There are definitely some holes on this course that you have to make birdy on," Stender said. "We have to take advantage of that so when we hit the section of the course that is affected by wind we can have a little bit of extra confidence."
