The 2010 Jackrabbit Invitational came to a close on Tuesday with the University of Wyoming Cowgirl golf team finishing in eighth place out of 16 teams.
The Cowgirls trailed Oral Roberts University with their three round total of 892 (+28). The Cowgirls finished with 923 (+59) strokes.
Junior Molly Black and sophomore Juanita Rico combined to keep the Cowgirls in the middle of the pack with their matching 225 (+9) and a tie for 14th place. It was Black's second best tournament of the season and Rico's third best.
Black opened with a 79 (+7) but backed it up with an even par 72 in her second round. It was her first even par round since her record setting second round 68 (-4) in the Ram Fall Classic.
Rico ended the tournament with a 71 (-1), her first sub-par round since the second round at the UNM Dick McGuire Invitational on Sept. 19. On the day, Rico had seven birdies, five of which came on 10 par four's.
Freshman Dana Zamprelli had her best tournament of the season and her career with a three round total of 237 (+21). Her second round 73 (+1) was her career low round and helped put her in a tie for 41st place.
Senior Jonelle Martinez had her second best tournament finish on the year with her two-day total of 239 (+23) and a tie for 49th place. Freshman Taylor Smalley rounded out the field for the Cowgirls in a tie for 69th place.
The Cowgirls don't get much of a break and will head directly to St. George, Utah to compete in a dual against Southern Utah on March 18.
