April 9, 2003

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming women's golf team played its final regular-season tournament of the 2003 spring season on Monday and Tuesday, April 7-8 at the Brigham Young Dixie Classic in St. George, Utah. The Cowgirls finished 20th in the field of 22 collegiate teams with a final team score of 1,004. UNLV captured the team title with a final score of 906.

Wyoming's top individual finisher was senior Kim Nissen, who fired rounds of 82, 80 and 86 for a 32-over par total of 248, tying for 83rd place in the field of 120 women's golfers. Jordan Auten of the University of San Francisco captured the individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 218, two-over par.

"We are still searching for the consistency we have been struggling with all spring," said Wyoming women's golf coach Jill Rettinger. "We're putting together some good series of holes, but then a double (bogey) or triple (bogey) sneaks into a round. The greens Tuesday were really hard and fast, and we've been at a disadvantage not being able to get outside much this spring. Hopefully, we will get some good weather in the next few weeks as we prepare for the conference championship."

The Cowgirls' final event of the season will be the Mountain West Conference Championship on April 24-26 in Sunriver, Ore. The Mountain West Conference has six of its eight member schools that sponsor women's golf. Along with Wyoming, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV will be competing in the MWC Championship.

The BYU Dixie Classic was played at the Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah. Three different courses at Sunbrook were utilized during the tournament -- The Point which measured 5,882 yards, Woodbridge at a length of 5,911 yards and Blackrock which measured 5,939 yards. All three courses played to a par of 72.
