Cowgirl Golf Tied For Second After First Round Of Idaho Vandal Spring Invite

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

With an opening round 338, theWyoming Cowgirls were tied for second place after the first round of theUniversity of Idaho Vandal Spring Invitational on Sunday, April 9. Wyomingis tied with Montana State for second place. The host Idaho Vandals leadthe tournament with a 310. Wyoming senior Jordan Lintz is tied for theindividual lead after the first 18 holes with an opening round of 75. Lintzis tied with Trisha Einspahr of Idaho for the individual lead.

UW freshman Kim Nissen also got off to a fast start on Sunday withan opening round 81 to tie for ninth out of 50 golfers.

Sunday's opening round was the first of three rounds being played atthe University of Idaho Golf Course in Moscow, Idaho. The tournamentcontinues on Monday with the second 18-hole round. The Vandal SpringInvitational will conclude on Tuesday, April 11 with the final round.

"We've been playing better each round this spring," said UW women'sgolf coach Jill Johnson. "It's been exciting to see the girls continue toimprove throughout the season. We're starting to get some of the balancewe've been looking for. Not only did Jordan (Lintz) have her typicaloutstanding round, but Kim (Nissen) played one of her best rounds of theyear with an 81.

"This is the kind of performance we need in our final regular-seasontournament before the Mountain West Conference Championship later thismonth. I think the girls are really starting to gain some confidence. Wehave two more rounds in this tournament to continue that improvement, and Iknow the team is excited about getting back out there on the course Monday."

The University of Idaho Golf Course measures 6,011 yards and playsto a par of 72. Following the Idaho Vandal Invitational, the Cowgirls willcompete at the Mountain West Conference Championship on April 24-26 in St.George, Utah.
