The University of Wyoming women’s golf team finished second at the Montana State Bobcat Spring Invitational on Tuesday in Goodyear, Ariz. After carding a third-round 294 (+6), UW finished with an 894 (+30), one stroke back of tournament-champion Seattle.

Wyoming’s three-round total is the fourth-best 54-hole score in program history, as its third-round score of 294 (+6) is a season best and the third lowest in Cowgirl history. Additionally, the last time UW finished within the top-three was at the Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate in 2011.

“I am very proud of how we played throughout this entire tournament,” Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender said. “This team has worked very hard and have continued to believe in themselves. They have earned the right to be in the position they were today.”

Freshman Kaylee Knadler was one of four Cowgirls to finish in the top 20. Knadler shot a career-low 71 (-1) in the final round to tie for fifth with a total of 222 (+6). Sophomore Klara Castillo also tied with Knadler in fifth place. Castillo recorded a third-round 74 (+2) on Tuesday. It is the first top-five finish for both Knadler and Castillo.

Sophomore Gabrielle Gibson shot a 76 (+4) during the final round at the Golf Club of Estrella. She finished in 12th place with a three-round total of 227 (+11), as freshman Megan Knadler closed out the tournament with a 74 (+2). She tied 18th in the 98-individual field with a 231 (+15).

Senior Emily Woodard rebounded with a final-round 75 (+3) to finish with a total of 234 (+18). She tied for 27th, while junior Taylor Dorans was one shot behind with a 235 (+19). Dorans jumped 20 spots and fired a 75 (+3) on Tuesday to finish tied for 31st, which is her best finish of the season.

Senior Kathleen Kershisnik had an 82 (+10) to move her three-round total to 240 (+24), while junior Mackenzie Barrie had a score of 246 (+30) after a third-round 81 (+9).

Castillo led UW with ten birdies over the three rounds, as Kaylee Knadler added eight birdies and 34 pars over the 54-hole tournament.

Seattle shot a 293 (+5) during the final round to claim the team championship, while Northern Colorado’s Kala Keltz claimed the individual crown with a 219 (+3).

“Seattle played great today, and I thought we were right there all day long,” Stender added. “This tournament was about gaining experience and confidence to prepare and build momentum for next week.”

Wyoming will next compete in the 2016 Mountain West Women’s Championship. The tournament will be held at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif., on April 18-20.
