RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. -
University of Wyoming sophomore golfer Mackenzie Barrie turned in a score of 74 (+2) to lead the Cowgirls on the second day of the Mountain West Championship on the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. on Tuesday. The Cowgirls are in ninth place in the nine-team field with a two-round tally of 637 (+61) after shooting a 325 (+37) on Tuesday.
"We just had a very up and down day and struggled down the stretch with some decision making," UW head coach Josey Stender said. "We just need to play for the shot in front of us in each and every situation and I know we can improve and play the way we are capable of playing."
Barrie recorded three birdies on the day en route to her lowest score in a MW Championship of 74 (+2). She sits tied for 32nd in the 45-golfer field at 157 (+13). Senior Samantha Stancato finished play at 84 (+12) for a two-day total of 159 (+15), as she is tied for 37th.
"I was very proud of the way Mackenzie bounced back today and really battled back," Stender said.
Sophomore Taylor Dorans is tied for 40th place at 161 (+17) after turning in a score of 84 (+12) for the second round. Redshirt freshman Gabrielle Gibson is in 42nd place with a score of 164 (+20) after a round of 83 (+11) on Tuesday. Junior Emily Woodard finished the second round at 88 (+16), as she is in 44th place with a tally of 167 (+23).
San Jose State is in the team lead after the first two rounds with a score of 589 (+8). San Diego State is in second place with a mark of 301 (+13) with Nevada in third with a tally 595 (+19). SDSU's Milagros Chavez remains atop of the leaderboard with a score of 140 (-4).
The Cowgirls return to the course tomorrow morning for one 18-hole round to wrap up the championship.
