UW at 1999 WAC Women's Golf Championship

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

After an opening round 72 onMonday, Wyoming junior Jordan Lintz shot a second round 83 on Tuesday, April20 and is in 14th place out of 55 golfers heading into Wednesday's finalround of the 1999 Western Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship.

Lintz is eight strokes off the lead with a 36-hole total of 155.The lead is currently held by Jamie Stevenson of Brigham Young. Stevensonshot a second round of 72 to go with her opening round 75 and overtook firstround leader Niina Laitinen of Tulsa. Stevenson carries a 147 total intoWednesday's final round. Laitinen, who is the defending WAC Champion, isonly one stroke back at 148 tied with Georgina Simpson of San Jose State andBrenda Anderson of TCU.

In the team competition, Wyoming remained in 11th place in the11-team field with a two-round total of 671. TCU leads in the teamcompetition at 612. TCU is the defending team champion.

The tournament is being played at the Poppy Ridge Golf Course inLivermore, Calif., which measures 6,133 yards and plays to a par of 72. Thetournament features a 54-hole format. The tournament will conclude with afinal 18-hole round on Wednesday, April 21.

"Jordan struggled a little bit today," said UW women's golf coachJill Johnson. "But her par round on the first day still has her withinstriking distance of the leaders. She just needs to play another solidround on Wednesday, and she will have an excellent opportunity to finishright up near the top of what is an excellent field of college golfers.

"Jessi (Santesson) and Tara (Ludwig) both played good rounds today.Jessi shot an 81, improving on her first round by six strokes, and Tara shotan 82, which was a 13-stroke improvement. It was great to see those twostep up and show their competitive nature today. They were both determinedto have good rounds."
