LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming women's golf team continued play today with the second 18 holes at the Mountain West Conference Tournament in Sunriver, Ore. Wyoming shot a team total of 317 (+33) and remains in sixth place.
Each Cowgirl golfer posted lower marks in their second round than the previous 18 holes and as a team they improved 15 strokes over their Day One score.
Wyoming freshman Laura Mengelkamp again led the Cowgirls and improved two spots from the first day and sits 12th. Mengelkamp shot a second round of three-over 74 to compliment her first round score of 78.
"Today was a huge improvement for us," said UW head women's coach Jill Rettinger. "We did not have the early jitters and played better out of the gate.
"We had it going today and hopefully the girls can take this momentum, drop their scores again tomorrow and play well.
"Laura played well again and is poised for a good finish, but still can improve even more. She was even-par through 15 and then bogeyed the final three holes."
UNLV remains atop the leader board, but has a narrow one stroke lead over New Mexico. The 25th-ranked and defending Conference champion Rebels posted a 14-over 298 Friday and have a two-day total of 592.
