The University of Wyoming women's golf team continued play today with the second 18 holes at the Mountain West Conference Tournament in Sunriver, Ore. Wyoming shot a team total of 317 (+33) and remains in sixth place.

Each Cowgirl golfer posted lower marks in their second round than the previous 18 holes and as a team they improved 15 strokes over their Day One score.

Wyoming freshman Laura Mengelkamp again led the Cowgirls and improved two spots from the first day and sits 12th. Mengelkamp shot a second round of three-over 74 to compliment her first round score of 78.

"Today was a huge improvement for us," said UW head women's coach Jill Rettinger. "We did not have the early jitters and played better out of the gate.

"We had it going today and hopefully the girls can take this momentum, drop their scores again tomorrow and play well.

"Laura played well again and is poised for a good finish, but still can improve even more. She was even-par through 15 and then bogeyed the final three holes."

UNLV remains atop the leader board, but has a narrow one stroke lead over New Mexico. The 25th-ranked and defending Conference champion Rebels posted a 14-over 298 Friday and have a two-day total of 592. UNLV saw their five-stroke advantage narrow to one, as the 14th-ranked Lobos fired the day's lowest round with a 10-over 294. New Mexico has a 36-hole team score of 594. Colorado State remains third with a team score of 600, followed by BYU in fourth (605), San Diego State fifth (625) and Wyoming sixth (649).

Individually, UNLV's Elena Kurokawa remains in first place by one stroke over BYU's Rachel Newren. Kurokawa followed up her day one 69 with a one-over 73 today for a 36-hole total of even par 142. Newren carded a second round 73 and holds a two-day total of one-over 143 (70-73). Christine Fernandez of New Mexico sits in third place with a 36-hole total of four-over 146 (72-74).

Second round action at the Championship was delayed 30 minutes due to frost. The first tee time was at 10:30 a.m. (MT).
