Lintz Shoots A Second Round 74 At The NCAA West Regional

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Jordan Lintz fired a second round74, two-over par, on Friday and moved into a tie for 55th out of 126competitors at the 2000 NCAA West Regional in Tempe, Ariz. Lintz improvedby five shots with her round of 74, after shooting an opening round 79 onThursday. She carries a two-round total of 153, nine-over par, intoSaturday's final round -- 14 strokes back of leader Miriam Nagl of ArizonaState, who posted a 36-hole total of 139, five-under par. The West Regionalis being played at the Karsten Golf Course on the campus of Arizona StateUniversity in Tempe, Ariz.

"Jordan had a much better day, today," said UW women's golf coachJill Johnson. "She cut five strokes off her first round score and moved up24 spots in the standings -- from a tie for 79th to a tie for 55th. It'sstill too soon to count her out of qualifying for the NCAA Championships,but we do know she has to have a strong final round to have a shot at movingon to the NCAAs.

"With Jordan's competitiveness and intelligence, I would never counther out. She's capable of shooting a very low score on Saturday, and I knowshe's determined to go out and play her best tomorrow whatever the outcome."

Eleven teams and three individuals will move on to the NCAAChampionship from the West Regional and 11 teams and three individuals fromthe East Regional will move on to the Championship. In addition, tworemaining teams will move on to the NCAA Championship. Those two teams willcome from the Regional with the most teams ranked in the final Top 24.

Arizona took over the team lead on Friday with a round of 284. TheWildcats have posted a two-day total of 580 and hold a nine-stroke advantageover second-place San Jose State. First-day leader, Tulsa, dropped back toninth place in the 24-team field with a second-round score of 305. Tulsa isnow 19 strokes out of the lead. New Mexico of the Mountain West Conferenceis in a tie for 20th place with a team score of 621, and Brigham Young is in22nd place at 622.

Lintz is scheduled to tee off in the final round at 8:20 a.m.,Pacific time on Saturday, May 13. The Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz.,plays to a par of 72 and measures 6,131 yards.

The NCAA East Regional will also conclude play on Saturday, May 13.The East Regional is being contested at Ohio State University. The NCAAChampionship will be held May 24-27 at the Crosswater Course at the SunriverResort in Sunriver, Ore., with Oregon State University serving as host.
