Stormy skies and three lightning delays allowed for only one of two scheduled rounds to be completed on Monday at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. The University of Wyoming Cowgirl golf team had a solid score of 313 (+25) in the morning round, but could not finish the second 18 holes before darkness descended.

After the first round UW was in 14th place in the 17 team field. No teams were able to complete two full rounds and play will resume early Tuesday with the remainder of round two and the final full round of 18 holes.

"Our team goal for the year is to shoot 315 or better in every round and we met that goal in our first round today," said Cowgirl head coach Josey Stender. "I was pleased with how the freshmen played and our entire team really had it going for awhile early on until some big numbers hurt us. It was nice to see the individuals play well also, because I think that shows we have some depth this year.

"The second round was difficult, being pulled on and off the course by an automatic lightning detection system. We are not playing as well and had some tough luck because those delays occured while we were on a hard stretch of holes on the course. It was difficult to get our rhythm back and tomorrow it will really be a test for us to pick up a round that we started a day before."

Through round one Colorado (286) held a four stroke team advantage over Baylor, while Long Beach State's Kay Hoey was the individual leader at 67 (-5).

Playing as indiviuals, Wyoming freshman Jonelle Martinez and junior Lindsay Bauknecht had the best Cowgirl rounds of the day, scoring 75 (+3) and 76 (+4) respectively. Martinez was tied for 27th of 90 participants, while Bauknecht was tied for 35th.

Counting towards the team score, UW freshman Sarah Fogerty had the best mark with a 77 (+5), which placed her in a tie for 45th. Both Martinez and Fogerty were playing in their first collegiate events as true freshmen.

Also counting towards the Wyoming team tally were juniors Laura Mengelkamp (78) and Kaelee Aegerter (79) and senior Michelle Camaione (79). Sophomore Mikala Henzlik carded a score of 80.

The 54-hole event is being held at the Ptarmigan Country Club, which plays to a par of 72 and measures 6,223 yards. Live scoring for the tournament is available at
