ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -
The University of Wyoming Cowgirls concluded action at the UNM/Dick McGuire Invitational Sunday in Albuquerque, NM with an 18th-place finish.
Sophomore Juanita Rico led the team with her three-round total 226 (+7), and a tie for 35th place. She had the best round for the Cowgirls in the tournament with her second-round 71(-2). Junior Molly Black had a solid 75 (+3) in the final round to give her a tie for 54th place. She finished the tournament with a total of 229 (+10) strokes and had the best round for the Cowgirls on Sunday.
"Molly played well for us today, but we struggled as a team," said UW head coach Josey Stender. "The good thing about this is that we get to go out there and start fresh tomorrow in Denver."
The Cowgirls will test their endurance as they begin the three-day Ron Moore Invitational hosted by the University of Denver on Monday at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club at 10 am.
"This will be another good test for us to see if we can shake this tournament from our memory and start fresh," said Stender. "I know we can play better than we did and we just need to stay positive and let our natural talent take over."
The Cowgirls finished 12th in last year's Ron Moore Invitational and tee off paired with Montana State and the University of Illinois starting at 10:10 am.
