Wyoming's Tara Ludwig Finishes 16th At Lamar Cardinal Invitational

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyomingredshirt sophomore Tara Ludwig saved her best round for last as she shot an80 in the final round of the Lamar University Lady Cardinal Invitational onTuesday. Ludwig moved up two spots in the final round to place 16th out of53 golfers with a 54-hole total of 249.

Ludwig entered the final of three rounds on Tuesday in 18th placeafter firing rounds of 86 and 83 on Monday. She improved by three strokesin each round of the 54-hole event. It is the highest finish of her career.The Portland, Ore., native redshirted a year ago after undergoing surgery onleft heel. Her previous best finish was 27th place in the 1998 CowgirlChallenge played in Sheridan, Wyo.

As a team, the Cowgirls finished in eighth place in the 10-teamfield, shooting a team score of 1033.

Alessandra Perez of Texas A&M Corpus Christi won the individualtitle with a 54-hole score of 228. Sam Houston State captured the teamtitle with an eight-stroke victory over host Lamar -- 954 to 962.

"Tara (Ludwig) really played with a lot of confidence throughout thetournament," said UW women's golf coach Jill Johnson. "She improved eachround, and in the final round only seven girls shot better scores than her.

"Although she has struggled thus far this season, it was alsoencouraging to see Jessi (Santesson) shoot an 83 in her final round. Weneed Jessi to return to her form of a year ago, if we want to place higheras a team."

The 54-hole Lady Cardinal was played Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 25-26on the Beaumont Country Club in Beaumont, Texas. The course played to a parof 72 and measured 6,093 yards.

The Cowgirls return to action on October 2 at the Montana StateBobcat Invitational in Bozeman, Mont.
