The University of Wyoming women's golf team finished in fourth place, 631 strokes, at the Inland Empire Women's Intercollegiate in Post Falls, Idaho on Tuesday. UC-Riverside topped the 11-team field with a score of 606.
UW freshman Laura Mengelkamp finished her second round at two-over-par for the tournament, which tied her for third place of 63 individuals. Mengelkamp shot 71 and 75.
"Overall, fourth place in this tournament is good for us," said UW head coach Jill Rettinger. "The freshmen continue to lead the way for us. They have played very steady, solid golf and have been very reliable."
Freshman Lindsay Bauknecht had a nice final round of 76, after an 80 on Monday and tied for 18th. Sophomore Whitney Hernandez scored 86 and 80 to tie for 44th. Sophomore Michelle Camaione finished with an 81 and 86, while senior Shala Hanson scored 83 and 85.
Each team played five golfers and counted the four best scores.
Gonzaga University hosted the 36-hole Inland Empire Women's Intercollegiate which was played at the Highlands Golf Course. The Highlands plays to a par of 72 and measures 5,977 yards.
Next up for the Cowgirls is the Heather Farr/CU Memorial in Boulder, Colorado, on October 4-5.
