The Universityof Wyoming women's golf team finished in fifth place atthe Ron Moore Classic in Highlands Ranch, Colo. on Tuesday.UW closed the tournament with a final round 309 which was 12strokes better than the previous round. Senior AshleyCariveau and freshman Michelle Camaione finished in a tiefor 12th place in the field of 47 individuals. Cariveaushot two equal rounds of 78 (+6).
"Ashley played great this week," said UW womens golfcoach Jill Rettinger. "She was very steady and her gamehas matured alot, we're looking for her to be a greatteam leader this season."
Other golfers that helped UW to a fifth place finish werefreshman Kayla Morrison, junior Shala Hanson, and sophomoreBailey Adcock. During the final round the Cowgirls had fourgolfers with scores in the 70's, and all of the UW golfersposted better second round scores than their first roundscore.
"It was really fun to see us put some good, consistentrounds together," said Rettinger. We're a young team andwe are only going to get better with every tournament weplay. I thought we played a very good tournament aftergetting beat up a little bit in New Mexico," Rettingernoted. I am very impressed with how we bounced back."
The University of Nebraska won the tournament with a teamscore of 613. Taking home the individual crown was EmilyHoeper from the host team Denver University. She shot asix-over par 150 for the two day event.
The UW women golfers will next hit the links October 6-7 atthe CU Memorial Tournament in Boulder, Colorado.
