University of Wyoming senior JanaJohnson from Buffalo, Wyo., shot rounds of 77 and 81 to place fifth out of32 individuals at the 2000 Montana State University Bobcat Invitational onMonday, Oct. 2. Johnson's 158 total was only five strokes back of theindividual winner Maggie Pierose of Montana, who fired rounds of 78 and 75for a 153 total.
Montana captured the team title with a total of 631. The WyomingCowgirls placed fifth in the six-team field with a team score of 648.
"Jana (Johnson) had an outstanding tournament placing fifth. Thatis one of the best finishes of her career," said UW women's golf coach JillJohnson. "This should give Jana a lot of confidence as we continue throughthe fall season. One of our freshmen, Aryn Cariveau, also played great andfinished in the Top 10. It was her first really strong tournament, and I'mthrilled for her. We saw some good consistent play from everyone in thefinal round. We just need to carry this forward to the CU tournament nextweek.
Cariveau opened with a round of 82, and followed that with a 79 fora 161 total, placing her ninth in the field.
The MSU Invitational was played at the Bridger Creek Golf Course inBozeman, Mont. The tournament was a 36-hole event with both rounds playedon Monday, Oct. 2, 2000.
The Cowgirls next tournament will be the University of ColoradoHeather Farr Memorial on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 9-10, in Boulder, Colo.
