University of Wyoming junior Kim Nissen captured her second Top 25 finish of the 2001 fall golfseason on Tuesday, tying for 25th place at the Boise State Bronco Fall Classic. Nissen shot rounds of 76 and 80 for a 14-over par total of 156 totie for 25th in the field of 98 collegiate golfers.
UW placed 12th out of 17 teams, with a 36-hole total of 652, 84-over par. The University of Idaho won the team title with a 29-over partotal of 597. Mayumi Motoyama of Colorado State and Lani Elston of Idaho tied for the individual title with five-over par totals of 147.
Alison McGuire, another UW junior, finished a stroke back of Nissen at 157 and tied for 31st. The Bronco Fall Classic was played onMonday and Tuesday, Oct. 22-23. The tournament was a 36-hole event with 18 holes being played each of the two days.
"Kim (Nissen) came out with a strong round of 76 on Monday, and followed that with an 80 on Tuesday to finish up her fall season withanother excellent tournament," said UW women's golf coach Jill Johnson. "Kim has played some excellent golf this fall. She really seems to beplaying with a lot of confidence, and that should serve her well when we resume the season in the spring.
"Alison (McGuire) shot a 75 on Monday -- only one stroke shy of her career best. She fell back a little bit today, shooting an 82, butAlison should be pleased with her result this week.
"We moved up two spots in the team standings in the final round, and I was really proud of all the girls' effort in tough weatherconditions on Tuesday. Now we have a few months off before we start the spring season in March."
The Bronco Fall Classic was hosted by Boise State University at the Banbury Golf Club in Eagle, Idaho. The course measured 5,913yards and played to a par of 71.
Wyoming concluded its five-tournament fall season at the Bronco Fall Classic. The Cowgirls will tee off the 2002 spring season onMarch 11-12 at the Lady Pirate Spring Classic in Greenville, N.C. The Lady Pirate will be hosted by East Carolina University.
