The Wyoming Cowgirls capturedsecond place at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Invitational onTuesday, and Wyoming senior Jordan Lintz (Rapid City, S.D.) finished inthird place. Wyoming shot a 36-hole total of 660 for second place,whileLintz shot rounds of 78 and 78 for a 156 total.
Midland College won the team competition with a 639 team score.They were led by Linzi Morton, who shot rounds of 76-74 for a 150 totalandfirst place.
Wyoming had all five of its team members place in the Top 25 in thefield of 75 golfers. Jessi Santesson, a junior from Worland, Wyo., tiedfor19th at 168. Juniors Katherine Crowley and Jana Johnson, and freshmanKimNissen all tied for 24th at 171.
"We really showed a lot of fight this week," said UW women's golfcoach Jill Johnson. "This is the type of consistent play that we'vebeenlooking for all year. Everyone, from our number one to our number fiveplayer, played consistent golf.
"Hopefully we can use this experience to build on as we prepare forour final fall tournament at New Mexico State next week."
The Islander Invitational was played on the Northshore Country Clubin Portland, Texas. The course measured 5,811 yards and played to a parof72. The tournament format included two 18-hole rounds -- one on Mondayandone on Tuesday.
