The University of Wyoming women's golf team is set to host the third annual 2009 Cowgirl Classic at the beautiful Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz., Monday and Tuesday, April 6-7.
The Cowgirls will enter their own tournament coming off a second place finish in 2008 and their fourth place finish in 2007. Wyoming returns junior Sarah Fogerty who tied the highest finish for a Cowgirl at this event in 2008 with her fourth place finish.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to host our own tournament at such a beautiful and challenging Ocotillo golf course," said UW head coach Josey Stender. "We have a very strong and competitive field set up for this weekend and look forward to seeing where we stack up against them. I look forward to our girls coming out with something to prove and playing tough."
The tournament will play 54 holes, 36 of which will be completed on the first day. The Cowgirls and the rest of the field will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. (PT) and conclude on Tuesday with 18 holes at the same time.
The 20-team 2009 field will include: Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Idaho State, McNeese State, Montana State, North Dakota State, Northern Arizona, Old Dominion, Portland State, Sacramento State, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, UC-Riverside, Montana, Northern Colorado, Portland, Weber State, Xavier, and Wyoming.
