The University of Wyoming Cowgirl golf team wraps up the regular season hosting the eighth annual Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Monday and Tuesday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. The tournament will be held at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club for the first time in event history.
The Wyoming Cowgirl Classic features 20 teams and 108 golfers. The tournament will tee off Monday with two rounds starting at 8:45 a.m. MT. The event wraps up Tuesday with one round at a time to be determined.
The 2013 Cowgirl Classic went to Boise State with its three-round total of 901 (+37). The Cowgirls finished tied for 11th place out of a field of 19 with their three-day total of 954 (+90). Individually, Cowgirls' Stacey Blunt and Emily Wood led the team as they finished in a tie for 42nd place.
The Cowgirls are coming off their best tournament of the season at the Mountain View Collegiate turning in a 925 (+61). The Cowgirls shot their lowest rounds of the spring with a 301 (+13) in the final round and 309 (+21) in the opening round.
Freshman Taylor Dorans had the best tournament of her career at the Mountain View Collegiate last weekend turning in a career-low 227 (+7) to finish tied for 42nd. In her final round of the tournament she tied a career-best with a 74 (+2). Sophomore Emily Woodard also posted a career weekend in her spring debut with the Cowgirls. Woodard shot a 232 (+16) with a pair of rounds at 76 (+4) and an 80 (+8). Woodard, who was playing as an individual, finished tied for 64th in the 84-golfer field.
Senior Stacey Blunt has been the Cowgirls' most consistent golfer this spring leading the Cowgirls in two events. She finished tied for 22nd at 238 (+22) at the BYU Entrada Classic for her best finish of the spring campaign. It was the 10th time in her career with UW that she has finished in the top 25.
