Cowgirls Compete at MWC Championship This Week: The Wyoming women's golfteam will conclude their 2001 spring schedule on Monday-Wednesday, April23-25 at the Mountain West Conference Championship in Sunriver, Ore.

Five MWC schools field women's golf teams. They are Wyoming, BYU,CSU, New Mexico and San Diego State.

A year ago, former Cowgirl Jordan Lintz won the first-ever MWCindividual women's golf title. UW finished fourth out of five teams.

The final team standings from last year's MWC Women's GolfChampionship were as follows, with San Diego State being disqualified:

Individually, the Cowgirls' highest ranked individual entering thechampionship is senior Jana Johnson, who ranks No. 22 in the MWC with astroke average of 82.4 per round.

Entering the 2001 MWC Championship, New Mexico is the one conferenceschool ranked nationally at No. 25.

Four of the six All-Conference performers from a year ago will becompeting again in this year's championship. Carrie Summerhays of BYU, the2000 MWC Player of the Year, returns for her junior year, as do Ryley Webband Claudia Ferrini of New Mexico and Heather Rollo of San Diego State. Addto that field Mayumi Motoyama of Colorado State, last year's MWC Freshman ofthe Year, who also returns.

The 2001 MWC Women's Golf Championship will be played on the MeadowsCourse at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.

The tournament format will be three 18-hole rounds, with all threerounds set to tee off at 10:00 a.m., Mountain time. The first round will beplayed on Monday, April 23. The second round will be played on Tuesday,April 24 and the final round on Wednesday, April 25.
