Wyoming's Lintz Selected For NCAA West Regional Women's Golf Championship

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming senior JordanLintz was selected on Monday to participate in the 2000 NCAA West RegionalWomen's Golf Championship to be played on the campus of Arizona StateUniversity in Tempe, Ariz., on May 11-13.

The NCAA West Regional is composed of the West and Far WestDistricts. Wyoming is in the West District. Eleven teams and twoindividuals were selected from the West District to play in the WestRegional. Lintz, along with Kristen McLaren of UTEP were the twoindividuals from the West District selected. The 11 teams selected from theWest District in the order of their selection were: New Mexico State,Oklahoma State, New Mexico, Texas, Tulsa, TCU, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri,Baylor and Texas Tech.

Thirteen teams and four individuals were chosen from the Far WestDistrict. The four individuals selected from the Far West District were:Angie Yoon of Nevada, Acey Erlandson of Boise State, Emily Arnaud of SanFrancisco and Heather Rollo of San Diego State. The 13 teams selected fromthe Far West in the order of their selection were: Arizona, USC, ArizonaState, Stanford, Pepperdine, San Jose State, UCLA, California, Oregon,Washington, Oregon State, Brigham Young and Washington State.

Lintz captured the 2000 Mountain West Conference individualchampionship on April 26, winning by three strokes over Carrie Summerhays ofBrigham Young. Lintz was also selected to the MWC All-Conference team. Inaddition to Lintz, Heather Rollo of San Diego State is the only otherindividual from the Mountain West selected, and New Mexico and BrighamYoung are the only two teams from the MWC to be chosen for the WestRegional. New Mexico won the 2000 MWC team title, and BYU finished second.

"I'm completely overwhelmed right now," said Lintz. "This issomething I've always strived for since I came to the University as afreshman. I've really worked hard over the last four years to accomplishthis, and to find out that I made it is really exciting. I'm thrilled withthe opportunity to represent our school and region."

"I think even more so than winning the conference championship, thishas been Jordan's (Lintz) goal since the end of last season," said Wyomingwomen's golf coach Jill Johnson. "She thought she was going to have anopportunity to make the NCAA's last year, but didn't quite make it. Withthe kind of season she put together this year, she definitely deserves herselection."

Lintz is scheduled to tee off in the first of three rounds at theNCAA West Regional at 7:30 a.m., on Thursday, May 11. She will tee off at1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 12, and will begin the final round at 8:20 a.m. onSaturday, May 13. The tournament will be played on the Karsten Golf Coursein Tempe, Ariz.

The NCAA East Regional will also be played May 11-13. The EastRegional will be contested at Ohio State University. The NCAA Championshipwill be held May 24-27 at the Crosswater Course at the Sunriver Resort inSunriver, Ore., with Oregon State University serving as host. Eleven teamsand three individuals will move on to the NCAA Championship from the WestRegional and 11 teams and three individuals from the East Regional will moveon to the Championship. In addition, two remaining teams will move on tothe NCAA Championship. Those two teams will come from the Regional with themost teams ranked in the final Top 24.
