LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Women's Golf team will kick off the season this upcoming Monday, Sept. 8th in Fort Collins, Colo., with the Ram Fall Classic.
"Traditionally this is our first tournament of the year and it is at a course that we are very familiar with," said fourth year head coach Josey Stender. "Jonelle (Martinez) came out of last weekend's qualifying on top and I look forward to her continuing her success at the Ram Fall Classic."
In last year's Ram Fall Classic, Martinez led the Cowgirls with a (+15) 231 in the 36 hole tournament. She finished the tournament individually in 44th place. As a team they finished tied for 11th out of 20 teams with their team score of 924, which at the time broke the school record. The score is currently ranked second all-time in UW history.
"I am excited about this year's team as they all had very good summers and have really improved their games," continued Stender. "The newcomers are going to push our returners and help elevate the level of competition."
The Ram Fall Classic brings 19 teams to Fort Collins and the Cowgirls will be joined by the likes of BYU, UC-Berkeley, Long Beach State, Louisville, Texas Tech and Fresno State, to name a few.
The two-day tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start and continue throughout the day as the Cowgirls will play 36 holes on Monday. They will then turn-around and play 18 holes on Tuesday beginning at 8:30 a.m.
