LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Junior University of Wyoming Cowgirl golfer Laura Mengelkamp shot a new school record of three-under par this past Tuesday, during the final round of the TaylorMade Lady Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif.
The previous school record of two-under par, held by several including Mengelkamp, was broken with an up and down par save on her final hole of the fall season.
During the two day tournament Mengelkamp took advantage of the par 5's, as she led the entire field in par 5 scoring at four-under par. With her school record round of 69, she leapt up the leader board from 25th to finish tied for fifth place in the large field of 113 entrants.
UW's stroke average leader since her freshman year, Mengelkamp has made improvements every year and currently ranks in the top 20 of the Mountain West Conference with a 76.5 average.
Now with seven career top five finishes, including a tournament victory her freshman year at the Islander Spring Classic, Mengelkamp is on pace to become one of the best golfers in Cowgirl history.
The Cowgirl team has completed their fall season and now looks forward to spring competition Feb. 26, 2007 at the Fighting Camel Spring Classic in North Carolina.
