The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team opened the 2003 season with a 2-2 exhibition tie to Regis University at the UW Soccer Stadium Thursday afternoon.
The Cowgirls took an early lead with a goal by freshman Christine Nagel at the 18:07 mark. In the 33 minute, senior Brenna Meadows scored and secured a 2-0 lead that would last until halftime. In the half, Wyoming out-shot Regis 12-0.
Regis came out strong in the second half and cut theCowgirl lead to 2-1 with a goal 56:46 into the match. The Ranger offense would again click as they tied the game with a 64:28 goal. Neither team was able to score after that point and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
"We got a chance to look at some different players atsome different positions," said UW head coach Anne Moore."Everyone got an opportunity to show what they can do in agame situation and that is what these types of games are all about. Overall, we got to see a lot of situations whichmade it a very positive game."
The Cowgirl exhibition season will continue Sunday as they play host to Colorado College at the UW Soccer Stadium in a 1 pm match. The Cowgirl regular season will begin on Friday, Aug. 24 as the Georgia Bulldogs travel to Laramie.
