Wyoming soccer finished their pre-season with a 2-2 tie game against theFt. Collins Arsenal, an Under-17 club, today.
Sara Stephens scored UW's first goal at 13:02, on a strong attack by the junior. Many of the Cowgirls' newcomers saw playing time and showed growth in their game sincelast weeks' exhibition loss to UNC.
"I thought Sarah Skinner really stepped up for us today," Wyoming head coachAnne Moore said. "She and all the new players have really grown in confidence."
The Arsenal struck in the second period with a goal by stand-out player andLaramie native, Anna Schuch. Sarah Johnson assisted the goal.
UW came right back though, with a shot by senior Cowgirl, Abby Mouch at 64:17.Wyoming looked as if they would come away with the win when Anna Schuch scored her secondgoal with only 15 seconds left in the game.
"We're definitely getting smarter about what plays we make," said Moore. "Wehave a lot of young talent that we're going to see this season."
Before next weekend's regular season opener against Southwest Texas, Moore saysthe team needs to learn to play a faster game and deal with tired legs.
"We need to make those key adjustments and play to each other's feet," saidMoore. "If we're tired, we need to make better decisions about the plays to make."
The Cowgirls will host their first game of the season on Fri., Aug. 31 at4 p.m. against the Southwest Texas Bobcats. The University of Colorado will also cometo Laramie that weekend, facing UW on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.
