Cowgirl Soccer Opens Season With A Win In Hawai'i

Wyoming vs. Boise State @ Hawai`i - Wyoming 2-1 - Box Score

The University of Wyoming Soccer team defeatedBoise State, 2-1 Saturday in a very physical match that went into doubleovertime. This is the first win of the season for the Cowgirls.

Katrina Morton scored the game winning goal for the Cowgirls 32 secondsinto the second overtime off the pass from newcomer, Renee' Minero. Mortonalso assisted the first goal for the Cowgirls 25 minutes into regularplaying time. That goal was scored by Sara Stephens.

Wyoming's defense held off the Broncos until the second period whenBrittany Zoellner tied the game at one all. From there it would take fiftyminutes before the Cowgirls scored to win the game.

The game was very rough and tumble, resulting in two cautions, one for eachof the teams, and an ejection. Boise State's Abigail Roche was ejected inovertime after fouling Morton in the box. The Cowgirls outshot the Broncos19-9, Morton leading the way with eight and Kelly McShane taking four.

"Everyone played really well and fought hard to pull out the win," saidhead coach Anne Moore. "I'm just extremely proud of them."

The Cowgirls have one more game in Honolulu, against the University ofHawaii Wahine on Sunday. The Cowgirls return to action at home Fri., Sept. 1at 1 p.m. to take on the Eastern Washington Eagles.
