GREELEY, Colo. -
After a 45 minute rain delay, the Wyoming Cowgirls played late into the night on Sunday, but fell to the Northern Colorado Bears 1-0.
Not only did the Cowgirls have to play in wet conditions, and late into the night, but Ariel Cook scored a very late goal for UNC at the 89:02 mark to give the Bears their first ever victory over the Cowgirls.
In a defensive battle Wyoming outshot UNC 17-8 and also had seven corner kicks to Northern Colorado's three. Senior Laine Hubbard had six shots for the Cowgirls while another senior, Amanda Lathrop, added four.
Goalkeeper Jamie Scarcliff made four saves for the game, but the winning goal got past her with less than a minute remaining on the clock.
Wyoming drops to 2-2 with the loss, while Northern Colorado improves to the same record with the victory.
The week ahead for the Cowgirls will include two games at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex in Laramie. James Madison will take on the Cowgirls on Friday, September 5th at 4 p.m. The final game of the weekend will be against Montana on Sunday, September 7th at noon.
