The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 1-0 shutout over the University of Northern Colorado Tuesday afternoon at the UW Soccer Stadium. The win moves the Cowgirls overall record to 1-1.
Cowgirl freshman Christine Nagel scored the lone goal ofthe game at the 19:05 mark when junior Sarah Skinner foundher for the goal. The goal marks the first career goal for Nagel, who is currently the offensive leader for the Cowgirls with seven shots on the season. Senior goalkeeper Lori Scheider was credited with the shutout as she made 13 saves.
"It wasn't our best played game but we came out withthe win," said UW head coach Anne Moore. "Christine(Nagel) had a great finish, she got the opportunity and putit home and that is exactly what we needed. Lori Scheidercame up with a couple of big saves that kept us in it especially in the second half when they put a lot of pressure on us."
The Cowgirls will face their second tough SEC school of the seasons with Alabama this Friday. The Crimson Tide will travel to Laramie for a 4 pm contest at the soccer stadium.
"Alabama will be very similar to Georgia, they are very physical, big, fast and aggressive", said Moore. "It will be interesting and exciting to get them up here and see how we can perform against another tough team."
