Controversial Call Results In Tie For Cowgirl Soccer

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming at Sacramento State - Tie 2-2 - Box Score

The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccerteam traveled to Sacramento State on Sunday and tied the Hornets 2-2 inovertime.

The Cowgirls did score a goal in the second overtime that would have endedthe game with a win for UW, but unfortunately it was called back on anoffsides call.

In regular play time, Anne Maddock scored the first goal unassisted, thirtyminutes into the first period. The Hornets were right in the game, though,scoring ten minutes later. Kelly McShane, who achieved a hat trick(three goals) in UW's previous game, scored the Cowgirl's second goal withless than a minute left in the half.

Sacramento State's Brittany Hijlkema came back to tie up the gameimmediately in the second period, and the game was called after two overtimeperiods when neither team was able to score.

"We came out strong and possessed the ball really well," said head coachAnne Moore. "We created more opportunities to score, and though we'redisappointed it wasn't a W, we're hungry for our next win."

The Cowgirls will have a chance to satisfy that hunger Friday, Sept. 8 whenthe Marshall Thundering Herd come to Laramie. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. TheCowgirls also take on the Portland State Vikings, on Sunday at 12 noon.
