A competitive match ended in a 2-0 lossto the University of Alabama for the University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccerteam today.
The game was tied throughout as Wyoming did a great jobshutting down the Crimson Tide and creating opportunities.
"We played a very fast, physical team," UW head coach Anne Moore said."Our players did a great job in the middle and in the back shutting themdown."
Defensively, Kelly McKay played extremely tough, and senior Jessica Picconedid an excellent job shutting down Alabama's front line, playing the full 90minutes.
Wyoming was limited to five shots compared to Alabama's twelve, but neitherteam scored until Kim Zarzour snuck one past Cowgirl goalie Sarah Kuyper at71:22. The Tide turned around and scored quickly again on a direct kickfrom freshman forward Katie French at 88:59. French assisted UA's firstgoal.
"It was a frustrating game because we did everything right, and they gottwo easy goals," Moore said.
The Cowgirls now drop to 1-2-0, but will have the opportunity to get backto .500 tomorrow when they take on the South Alabama Jaguars in Mobile.
