Laramie, Wyo. - The University of WyomingCowgirl soccer team picked up its second win of the season overCharleston Southern 1-0, Friday evening in Flagstaff, Ariz. at theNorthern Arizona Soccer Tournament.
The Cowgirls (2-1-2 overall), got its only goal of the match early inthe second half from freshman Andrea Soltau at the 63:48 mark. JuniorMercy Adetoye found Soltau just outside the six yard box for thefreshman's first career goal.
The goal was all the Cowgirls would need as they held CharlestonSouthern to just three shots in the match, while taking 25 of theirown. Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Hawthorne earned the shutout whilemaking one save.
"Overall, we did a better job of possessing the ball and notforcing things," said UW head coach Anne Moore. "We moved theball a lot better than we did last weekend and switched fields reallyeffectively.
"Offensively, we got a lot more people involved while the defenseand midfield did a great job of moving the ball up the field.Defensively, we were very solid throughout the match and didn't giveup any big scoring opportunities."
The Cowgirls will return to action Sunday morning when they take onthe Illinois State Redbirds in the final day of the Northern ArizonaTournament. Game time is set for 10:30 a.m. Arizona time.
"Illinois State is very similar to us," added Moore. "Theyreally look to get the back field and outsides involved. They are avery talented team and it should be a very tight match-up."
