Cowgirls Open Home Season With Victory Over Arizona

September 4, 1998

Senior forward Erica Campbell scored a first half goal and sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Vandervort recorded her first career shutout, leading the University of Wyoming to a 1-0 victory over the University of Arizona at the UW Soccer Field.

Campbell, from Greeley, Colo., scored her goal at the 38:18 mark in the first half on a long lead pass down the right side from sophomore Katrina Morton. The goal was Campbells first of the season and the third of her UW career. Mortons assist was also her first of the season.

Despite being outshot by the Wildcats 19-7, the Cowgirls kept their composure in an extremely physical game and did not give up a goal for only the second time in Cowgirl Soccer history. Vandervort, of Tucson, Arizona, had eleven saves in goal and made several key stops on her way to the 1-0 shutout.

Wyomings 1998 season record is now 1-1-0 with the win, while the loss drops the Wildcats to 0-1-0 .
