LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Auburn forward Jill Palmer scored twice, once in the first half and then again in the second half, to lead the Tigers to a 2-0 victory over the University of Wyoming. The loss drops Wyomings season record to 1-2-0, while Auburn earned their first win of the season to bring their record to 1-2-0.
Despite outshooting the Tigers 15-13, the Cowgirls could not find the back of the net as they suffered their first shutout of the season. UW, led by sophomore forward Kelly McShane with four shots, had several good scoring chances including a shot that bounced off the crossbar in a frustrating offensive effort. That frustration showed during the game as senior Jenny Bahr picked up her first yellow card of the season in the first half, and head coach Liza Grant recieved two yellow cards and was ejected from the contest midway through the second half
This was the second meeting between UW and Auburn in women's soccer. The two teams last met on Sept. 7, 1996, in Auburn, Alabama, with Auburn winning 7-0. The Tigers now have a record of 2-0 against UW.
The Cowgirl's next home match will be Friday, Sept. 18, versus Wright State, at 4:00 p.m. at the UW Soccer Field. Their next road match will be this next Saturday, Sept. 12, versus Weber State, at 3:00 pm in Ogden, Utah.
