The University of Wyoming Cowgirl team lost to the 25th ranked team in the nation, the Rebels of Ole Miss, by a score of 3-1 Friday night in Oxford, Mississippi.
The Rebels got on the board quickly as Kristal Menardscored just 4:06 into the match on an assist from Lindley Beckman. Menard's goal would be the lone goal in the first half as it ended in a 1-0 Ole Miss lead. Ole Miss outshot the Cowgirls 9-5 in the half as Wyoming goalkeeper Lori Scheider made four saves.
Menard would score her second goal of the evening at the54:54 mark, this time off of a pass from Amy Sample, to putthe rebels up 2-0. Just five minutes later Courtney Biddle scored when Hillary Beckman's corner kick found her for the header.
The Cowgirls managed to get on the score board and avoidbeing shutout as sophomore Mercy Adetoye scored her firstgoal of the season in the 84th minute. The goal was toolittle too late and the Cowgirls fell by the final of 3-1.Scheider finished with 10 saves as Ole Miss outshot the Cowgirls 20-8 in the match.
"We came out a little bit flat and Ole Miss came out hardand took advantage early," said UW head coach Anne Moore."We struggled a bit offensively especially connecting onsome passes and couldn't ever really get it going. OleMiss is a good team and they played very well, we justdidn't do a very good job of hanging on to the balltonight."
The Cowgirls will have an opportunity to get back on thefield and rebound from this loss as they travel across the state of Mississippi for a Sunday afternoon match against Jackson State. Game time is scheduled for 1 pm.
