Sept. 13, 2002

WYOMING 2, Mississippi 2 - Box Score

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team came out strong with early goals against the University of Mississippi, who entered the game 4-0-0 on the season, but ended with a 2-2 double overtime tie, the first tie for both teams this season.

Tuva Gulbrandsen, of Olso, Norway, scored the first goal for Wyoming at the 5:08 mark in the first half with their first shot of the game. The Cowgirls continued to show tough defense through the remainder of the half and led at halftime, 1-0.

A goal at the 57:45 mark in the game by Mercy Adetoye, a freshman from Englewood, Colo., gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead. However, less than a minute following the goal, Mississippi answered with a goal of their own. Kelly Renie scored making it 2-1. Mississippi went on to tie the game at 2-2 with a goal by Kristin Chapman.

"Mississippi is a great team and they have had a lot of great wins and a lot of success," said UW head coach Anne Moore. "It was hard keeping that two goal lead and it was kind of frustrating because we were doing pretty well and then let them get back into it. We continued to fight hard even though they put a lot of pressure on us."

Cowgirl junior goalie, Lori Scheider, had 14 saves for Wyoming, while Mississippi had only two.

The Cowgirls match up against the University of Northern Iowa on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at UW Soccer Stadium.
