Cowgirl Soccer Blows Out Jackson State 9-1

Laramie, Wyo. - The University of WyomingCowgirl team scored early and scored often en route toknocking off the Lady Tigers of Jackson State 9-1 Sundayafternoon in Jackson, Mississippi.

The Cowgirl scoring rampage began just 6:30 into the firsthalf when Tuva Gulbrandsen scored on an assist from LindseyVossbrink. The second Cowgirl goal came at the 14:05 markwhen Renee Minero scored her first goal of the season on anassist from Mari Gomes. The Cowgirls would add three moregoals in the half coming from Gomes, assisted by MercyAdetoye, Darci Ferrell from Doreen Thompson and Gomes'second off an assist from Ferrell. Jackson State scored itslone goal of the game with just 35 seconds left in the firsthalf, when Shawnetress Wallace found Aisha Horne. Wyomingwould take a 5-1 lead into the locker room at the half. TheCowgirls outshot the Lady Tigers 20-4 in the half.

The second half started in the same fashion as the firstwith a Gulbrandsen goal, her second of the game and season,at the 61:35 mark. Ferrell would ignite as she scored twomore goals to complete the hat trick. The second coming onan assist from Melissa Bowman and Lindsey Vossbrink at 71:05and her third at 74:15 was unassisted. Brenna Meadows wouldscore the final goal of the game at the 77:05 mark on anassist from Bowman.

The Cowgirls outshot the Lady Tigers 44-6 in the match asfreshman goalkeeper Lauren Hawthorne was credited with herfirst career win. She played all 90 minutes and made threesaves on the day."Overall, we possessed the ball very well today," saidUW head coach Anne Moore. "We had lots of scoringopportunities and did a good job of taking advantage ofthem. Darci had an outstanding game scoring three goals andI was also very impressed with Tuva and Mari's two goalperformances."

The Cowgirls will continue a four game road trip as theytravel to Drake and Creighton next weekend. They willtravel to Des Moines, Iowa to face Drake Friday, Sept. 19 at7 pm and will continue on to Omaha, Neb. for a Sundayafternoon match with Creighton on Sept. 21. Start time atCreighton is scheduled for 1 pm.
